Currently based in San Jose, Costa Rica, Jose Ventura is a performer, choreographer, teacher and writer that has worked throughout Central America and the United States. He graduated from Law at the University of Costa Rica, and completed the Hubbard Street Professional Program under the direction of Alexandra Wells. Jose has worked with artists such as Johannes Wieland, Peter Chu, Rena Butler, Robyn Mineko Williams, and Flock. He has danced for Costa Rican companies DanzaAbend, Danz Project Company and Imagodanza. He has also been part of important Costa Rican productions such as West Side Story, Chicago (Luciérnaga Productions) and Dancing with the Stars. Recently he curated two residency spaces for Flockworks and LittleFireCollective in San Jose to create new work on local dancers, and choreographed Luciernaga's latest musical production Jesuschrist Superstar. Ventura has also premiered multiple pieces in Costa Rican's National Theater, including during the most prestigious dance festival of the country. Ventura has been awarded multiple grants from the Ministry of Culture and Youth from the Costa Rican government such as PROARTES, RACE and Becas Creativas.
